Dear Bear Parents,
It is our pleasure to welcome everyone back for another great year! We are excited to have students back in our classrooms and hallways. Our partnership with you and the community is important, and we understand that the education of our students entails all of us working together. As both parents and educators, we envision a place where everyone is valued, engaged in the learning process, safe, and enjoying their school environment.
At Dolores High School, we are fortunate to have a variety of technology options which allow us to address the educational needs of all our students, such as access to devices including laptops. While we recognize that cell phones are a part of our everyday lives, they are not a necessary requirement to meet our curricular outcomes. In order to support student learning, the cell phone expectation is that all students will silence their cell phones and put them away in the space provided in the classroom during all instructional time. Students will continue to be allowed to use their devices before and after school, during lunch, as well as between classes. Should a situation arise where you need to get in touch with your student during class time, we ask that you call the front office. Please see our DHS student handbook for more details regarding our cell phone procedure.
In order to support student learning, students will not be permitted to use headphones/earbuds during class. This rule will help us keep our students safe during the day because it will enable them to hear adult directives and be more aware of their surroundings. More details regarding this procedure can also be found in our DHS student handbook.
High school is a special time in our students’ lives in which they form relationships and memories that will last a lifetime. We ask that you encourage your student to get involved in extracurricular activities or one of the many clubs and organizations that Dolores has to offer. Please visit our website to learn more. We know a strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education. As partners, we share the responsibility for our student’s success and want you to know we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities.
Some key points to take note of:
- The first day of school is Monday August 12, 2024. The daily start and dismissal times will remain the same; with first hour beginning at 7:45 A.M. and seventh hour ending at 3:55 P.M.
- Be certain that your student brings lunch to school or has money in his/her lunch account. Please use the LINQ Connect meal payment system to add money to your child’s account. Please click here for more information.
- Students may not carry medication with them during the school day.
- Traffic will be busy around the campus during pick up and drop off times, we encourage you to leave home early, drive slowly, safely, and device-free. We have many walkers – please use caution while driving on and near campus.
- Attendance requirement to make up seat time hours: If a student accrues more than 15 absences in one semester in a particular class he/she will have to make up hours for every hour they miss above the 15 absences mark. 15 absences is equivalent to missing 20% of the scheduled school days, or 1 full month out of 5 for the semester. If this happens in more than one class he/she will have to make up hours in those classes as well. The only absences that are exempt from this policy are absences for school-sponsored events like FFA, athletic competitions, or Knowledge Bowl. Suspensions from school are also exempt because the school does not allow the student to be on campus when they are absent. This policy was implemented to address chronic absenteeism, not just truancy, and for that reason it does not matter if absences are excused or unexcused. This policy applies to the total number of absences students have per class per semester. If a student is passing a class that he/she has more than 15 absences in, no credit will be awarded for the class until the hours are made up. At that point the credit will be given. This policy does not apply when a student fails a class and has more than 15 absences because the student will not receive credit for the class anyway and will have to retake the entire class.

MR. WEISS’S CLASS – flame resistant coveralls are required for all welding classes. Students must also wear appropriate shoes – no crocs, sandals, birkenstocks, slippers, or open toed shoes of any kind.
