As we move into the second nine weeks, we are sure you are aware of the increase in positive COVID-19 cases in Montezuma County over the past few weeks. We have seen more positive cases in the month of October (46) than we saw in the previous two months combined (35).  According to the Colorado Department of Public Health, Montezuma County’s overall rating is “Safer at Home Level 2”. This is a yellow rating and represents a moderate risk. On a more positive note, the two week average positive rate and the number of new hospitalizations have a rating of “Protect Your Neighbors,” which is in the green zone and represents a milder risk (https://covid19.colorado.gov/data/covid-19-dial/covid-19-dial-dashboard

We want to keep our students in school and not return back to full time remote learning. Here are a few reminders we must continue to do to make sure we can be with your students in person.

  • All students, staff and visitors must remember to social distance (6’ if possible) and wear face coverings when in the school buildings. This is especially important when moving throughout the classroom or in the hallways.
  • Students, staff, and visitors must wash hands often. If not with soap and water, use hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing.
  • Be alert for symptoms. Watch for fever, cough, shortness of breath, or any other symptoms.
  • Please take your child’s temperature and complete a daily check in process at home. If they have a temperature of over 100 or show any other symptoms, please keep them at home.

    • Daily Health Screening Reminder:
      • Can NOT have a temperature over 100.
      • Do you have a cough?
      • Are you having shortness of breath or difficulty breathing?
      • Are you experiencing chills?
      • Are you experiencing muscle aches?
      • Do you have a sore throat?
      • Are you experiencing a new loss of taste or smell?
      • Have you been exposed to someone with COVID or COVID related symptoms?

Once again, we apologize for any inconvenience, our goal is simply to have your children in school. We know there are many different opinions and we respect all of them.

Regards,

Dolores School District Administration
